digital druglord by Blackbear

I don’t know about you guys, but I was SO READY for this album to be dropped, and I definitely was not disappointed. Bear stuck with his usual themes of drugs and girls, but this time sang to more upbeat rhythms, like on tracks chateau, make daddy proud, and i miss the old you. Of course he still included his signature slow bops, each song with a unique beat.

3. juicy sweatsuits (feat. Juicy J): juicy sweatsuits made it to my top three because its just so easy to listen to, like it just glides into your ears, if that makes any sense at all. Following the trend of the album, Bear sings about girls who used to be in his life but now he’s moved on to bigger and better things and has left them “in the closet of the club doing cheap cocaine”.

2. i miss the old you: This song is SUCH a bop and honestly just makes me want to bust a move. Basically, it’s about this girl that’s changed a lot because of money and fame and the typical LA lifestyle, which causes her to drift away from the guy, hence the song title. Sure, it’s not really a love song and the lyrics aren’t really that deep, but if it makes you dance, doesn’t that make it a good song?

1. chateau: I honestly can’t put into words how good this song truly is. This track completely stands out from the rest of the album (in my opinion), with it’s crisp beat and reverberating vocals. The production on just this song alone is truly amazing and you can really tell that Blackbear has vastly improved as an artist.

Overall, this album mashed together a bunch of different sounds, but somehow flowed together in the most immaculate way. There was a good mix of chill songs and bangers, some you could play in your car and others that mainly belong in a club. My favorite aspect of this album is that Bear leaned more to the electronic side instead of going trap music, like some might expect. digital druglord is probably my favorite Blackbear album yet.

Until Next Time,

Jordan
